Carrie & the twins

Basket o' baby

1st Doctor's Appointment

Noah and Danica had their first checkup today... Everything went well - they are both gaining some weight. Danica is up to 4 lbs 7oz, and Noah is at 5 lbs 7 oz (he lost some weight in NICU). In the pictures they are bundled up ready to go in their hoodies, Carrie's mom posing with Noah, and Danica on the scale.

Grandpa and Grandma T.

This was actually the first time that Grandpa and Grandma T. were able to hold the twins, since the night they were born when they came over they were under a heat lamp to help them get acclimated to the room temperature.

First day home

So far - so good. We made it through the night pretty well. Noah got a bit fussy for a while, I think it was a bit of circumcision discomfort. Eventually we made it through the night, and they have been sleeping most of the day. Bailey the dog and Stashy the cat have left them alone. Bailey doesn't even know they are here really, and Stashy just sits on the back of the chair to peek into the bassinet. Kind of a boring update I know, but there hasn't been that much happening really.

First encounter with Bailey

He started out a bit curious, but in the end he didn't really care. I'm sure that will change once he realizes he won't command quite the amount of attention as before.

We're Home!!!

Packed up and ready to go!!

Wireless!

Completely wireless! here are Noah and Danica on their way down to have their pictures taken.

It's Official!!

We are going to be going home today! Not sure what time yet, as we still need to get Noah's pictures taken and his circumcision, and Danica has a checkup at 3:15, but tonight we sleep (or more accurately don't sleep) in our own beds!!

No word yet...

Still no official word on if today is the day we get to go home.

Sign at school

When I went in to school today, this was on the wall outside my office. I thought it was so cute, I had to share it. Thanks AGWSR Middle School!

I never thought Hootie could make me teary-eyed

Tomorrow?

Well, they started giving us some forms for photos, and for a hepatitis shot, so it almost looks like they are planning on a tomorrow release. They haven't come out and said anything, but it looks possible!

Noah gets a bath

Not a happy camper

At least one more day...

The doctor was just in, and said that she would like to see him eating 2 oz. at each feeding, so she would see where he was at tomorrow.  Right now he is eating right at 1.5 oz or so.  It is odd that they have that requirement, because Dani was only eating about 1 - 1.25 oz when she was released.  She is just now getting up to 1.75 to 2 oz at a time.  I guess though he is considerably bigger, so I suppose he should be eating more.

Fun night :-)

Somehow, we managed to get Noah and Danica's feeding schedule staggered by two hours, exactly the opposite of what we wanted.  So, last night was spent trying to get them to eat at about the same time.  Noah's schedule is pretty rigid, as he is under the hospitals authority.  So, we had to somehow adjust Danica's feeding time by two hours without starving her or getting her thrown off schedule with what the hospital calls "snacking".  I think we were able to do it, with minimal sleep until 4 or so.  I think we succeeded, because at 8:30 this morning, we were each feeding one at the same time.

Noah

Some video of Carrie holding Noah

Danica Eating

Finally getting around to getting some video off the camcorder...

No real news...

Noah might get released tomorrow, he might not.  If I were a betting man, I would probably lean more towards Tuesday at this point.  There are a few tests yet he needs to have before he can leave, and they haven't said anything about any of them yet.  He also needs to get his pictures taken, car seat assessment, circumcision, hepatitis shot, and some other stuff that they haven't brought up yet either.  This makes me think that tomorrow isn't going to be the day.  Honestly, I don't want them sending him home until he is 100% ready to go home - and if that means he is here an another day or two, then that is what needs to happen.  He is eating good at this point - their goal was to get him to eat 1.5 oz. at one time so he can make it four hours between feedings, and he is doing good with that so far.

IV is out!

They just pulled out Noah's IV, so he is completely independent! Only monitor wires left!

Look Ma! No tubes!

They just took out Noah's feeding tube after he ate 1.5 oz. by bottle, so they said he didn't need it anymore. The IV might come out later today, so the only thing he'll have left on him will be monitor wires!

It was a good night

The two babies slept like - well, babies all night. Danica got up one time to be fed, and they have have Noah on a 3 hour feeding rotation so they came in the room a couple of times to feed him and each time they woke up Carrie and she was able to feed him. She says he did really good, both times finishing the amount the had for him in the bottle. Danica is eating like a little piggy, they said we should try to have her eat about 1 oz of formula each feeding, and she has been eating up to 1.5 and 1.75 oz during her last few feedings. Right now they are both sleeping side by side again. It really helps show how little she is compared to him when they are beside each other. I just can't get over how tiny she is. I can't imagine how small a 1 or 2 pound baby would be.

Reunion!!!

Bunkmates once again! After getting discharged this afternoon, Carrie, Danica and myself moved all of our stuff down the hall into the NICU. We have yet to figure out how we will both sleep in the room since there is only one small bed. Oh well, we will make due since it allows Noah and Danica to be reunited. Since Danica is no longer considered a hospital patient, we are 100% responsible for her care, and she can't be taken out of NICU or she won't be able to come back in. So, we both have to be here to relieve each other for food/restroom breaks. Sorry if the pictures aren't the best, we can't use a flash in the NICU. Personally, I don't think they turned out too bad for a dark room with no flash.

Easier Commenting!

In order to make it easier for people to leave comments about the pictures, I made it so you don't need to have a Google account in order to leave an comment. :-)

More pictures of Noah

Noah sleeping in a crib - the C-pap is gone, the only thing left attached is a feeding tube in case they decide they need to feed him that way again. They said they are feeding him with a bottle, but he might not be getting enough that way.

I'm gonna need a smaller hat!

This one doesn't quite fit...

(Right hand clutched on the gear shift)  Vrroooommm!!!!

Good news!

Noah had pulled his C-pap nose tubes out again, and they decided to just leave them out. He still has his feeding tube going down his nose, and the wires for the monitor pads, but for the most part he looks a lot less "hooked up". The plan for now is that Danica is going to spend the night with him. They set up a crib in his room they will both stay in, and there is a couch that folds into a bed that Carrie will stay in. I don't think it is really big enough for two, so I might be going home to sleep for the night. Once Carrie and Danica get discharged, they will go down to the NICU, and once they are there they can't really leave - at least Danica can't. Once she leaves the hospital, she can't come back to stay in the NICU with Noah. Still no idea how long he will be here yet, but I have a feeling it won't be too long! :-)

Danica Getting Ready for Pictures

Danica had her pictures taken a little bit ago. She had to have them taken before she gets discharged later today. When Noah gets ready to be discharged, he will have his pictures taken as well, and Danica will get all dolled up a second time to have some taken with him.

Noah's Progress

Carrie was able to go down and hold Noah again tonight. They are slowly weaning him off the C-Pap, they said it is just pumping room air now. They also have him sucking on a pacifier, so he should be ready to take a bottle when he gets out. They also feed him some formula though a tube instead of just the nutrients he has been receiving via IV. It sounds like they are planning on releasing Danica and Carrie tomorrow, but it doesn't really sound like Noah will be getting out at the same time. Carrie said that if he has to stay longer, her and Dani are going to move into Noah's NICU room until he gets out.

No Child Visitors Order

The doctors told us they don't want anymore children under 14 visiting Danica. They don't want any risk of anything infecting her that could possibly get passed on to Noah when they get reunited. They were actually going to let her sleep in the ICU crib with him tonight, but once they found out that kids had been around her, they nixed that idea.

Noah

Carrie was able to hold Noah again this morning. He is doing pretty good still, but no word on how long he might be in there yet.

What a precious little angel

Day 3 Update

Noah is still in NICU, but is doing really well. Carrie and I stayed with him for a while last night, and they let Carrie hold him for quite a while. They had to unhook all of his wires and tubes to hand him to her, then hook everything back up. It was really hard to watch. There is still hope he will be able to come home with the rest of us. They did a blood culture and are waiting for that to come back before they know for sure I think.
We had Danica stay in the room with us last night, and that little stinker wouldn't sleep for more than an hour or so before she would whine a bit, we would try to feed her, she would fall asleep, we would lay her down. Rinse and repeat about 5 times. Finally at 5 we brought her to the nursery so Carrie would hopefully get some needed rest. Now that she's back in our room, of course she is sleeping just fine.

I can finally truly appreciate this song

Update 2

Well, Noah has been moved into NICU. He wouldn't eat anything, and they just wanted to keep a closer eye on him to see if there was any reason why he wasn't eating. They said they would be giving him an IV to get some fluids in him, and keeping a close eye on vitals. They also said that he would be in there until he goes home, which may or not be when the rest of us can go home on Saturday. It as very hard for us to watch him get rolled down the hallway, and away from us and his sister. Apparently it is actually a pretty common situation for preemie boys. In fact, there was another set of boy girl twins born here today, and the boy ended up in NICU as well. Please keep Noah, Carrie and I (and Danica too for that matter) in your prayers.

Update

Everything is going well... Noah and Dani are laying in their little bed catching some zzz's. Noah is sleeping pretty good, Dani keeps opening her eyes and checking things out like she's not sure of her new surroundings. She is tiny. She also likes to keep sticking her tongue out. Since their little crying when first being born and cleaned up, they haven't made hardly a sound 3 1/2 hours later. Hopefully that continues once they get home! We will be here in Covenant until Saturday probably. Room 373 if anyone wants to visit!!

They're Here!!!!

Delay

The doctor is delayed because someone else is giving birth right now, so it could be a bit.

Today's the day!!!

We are at the hospital right now... Carrie's water broke around noon, and the C-section will be in about 12 minutes at 3:00 PM.
Pictures to come!
